"I met Kristian Leth while I was on tour in Denmark with Icelandic band, Mezzo-Forte. He was a mate of Eythor Gunnarsson, who's a great jazz pianist. Kristian later hooked me up with some gigs in Aarhus with various line-ups, and every time was thoroughly enjoyable. I knew he'd been working with Eric Alexander, too. I was a huge admirer of Eric's tenor playing, and so I didn't require too much encouragement When Kristian suggested " You guys would sound great together, why don't we organise a tour?"
I was playing regularly In the Ronnie Scott's House Band, so I seized the opportunity to fix a 3 night stint at the club with Arnie & James from the Ronnie Scott's All Stars and got Kristian on drums. Eric & I got on like a house on fire & the whole thing just clicked. The plan was a real old school 2-tenor blowing session, with a couple of originals in the idiom thrown in.
So what you have here is a live set, warts & all, played over an afternoon in the studio, the day after 3 nights at Ronnie's. We went on to play Birdland in Hamburg the next night, then on to different things.
Eric phoned me from a noisy bar after that, singing 'Water Jug' & saying "We miss you, Dave"."
