about
From the window of the small studio where we recorded this album a big banana plant that Judith O’Higgins planted sways regally in the Brixton sunshine (at least it did on that occasion!). A small garden briefly turned the urban setting into a tropical paradise. There was a visit by a wild parrot one day, who landed, strutted proudly, did a somersault on the neighbour's washing line and flew off into the sunset like a movie star.
This tune is unashamedly influenced by Horace Silver, who had a knack for writing catchy, bluesy tunes with a distinctive personality and strong structures to improvise on. He came from Cape Verde which definitely fits the title’s brief.. His bands were always chock full of great soloists who gelled together to great effect - precisely what we aspire to.
